Job description

EdShed is a rapidly growing global edtech startup, which helps hundreds of thousands of children practise their spelling, phonics and maths skills every day. Over the course of the past few years, we have grown from a new product to the market leader.

Based in Worcestershire, our product includes mobile apps, a web game and a web-based teacher hub all driven from a central web API.

We are looking for a full stack developer to help us continue to develop and improve our web product and other web & mobile assets. Your role will work on existing and new web-based products for the education market globally, focusing on primary education. We have a range of core products Spelling Shed, Phonics Shed and MathShed that is currently scaling globally.

You will work on our data analytics systems to give insight into children's own learning as well as to teachers. You may also work across other areas of our system as required.

You will be looking for a role that will challenge you, where you can make a big impact, grow your career as our company grows and expect to be part of a great success story.

Job requirements

We aim to be modern in our approach and our engineers love the fact that we solve challenges like scaling globally, building systems used by the teaching, parent and primary school community.

Our Tech Stack is a mix of the following
  • AWS
  • TypeScript across the stack
  • Node.js / Express
  • Aurora MySQL
  • Redis (Elasticache)
  • DynamoDB
  • Athena
  • Vue / Next / Webpack front end
  • Circle CI
  • App Engine / Lambda
  • Socket.io

We only ask for four core things!
  1. A solid developer with experience in building scalable web services with exposure to TypeScript & node.js, experience working with SQL databases, and reactive front-end frameworks such as Vue.Js or React.js. Other technologies like Nuxt.js, Webpack, NoSQL databases or AWS infrastructure would be great to have.
  2. Able to work in a small team.
  3. Good understanding of agile development processes.
  4. Passionate about education and how technology can improve it.

We are looking for someone who can share our values and from a product point of view we aim to deliver:

  • The best product
  • The best price
  • The most impact (educationally)
  • Cause the least hassle

Beneath that, we try to align ourselves with our customers and act in an ethical, transparent fashion; we genuinely are on the teachers’ side.

This role will primarily be based in Bewdley, Worcestershire or Birmingham however we are flexible around our time in the office. We are an equal opportunity employer and are family-friendly. We offer a pension, competitive salary and other benefits will be added as we grow.
